Water is rarely in short supply in the western world. We turn on a tap and out it flows. Of course, in many areas, water is a finite resource, but for the purposes of this article, we will assume you have drinking water freely available.
Many people carry a bottle of water with them wherever they go. It’s their beverage of choice. Who can blame them? Water is essential for human life. We need water to flush out toxins, lubricates our joints, and regulates our body temperature. We lose water via sweating when it’s hot, and if that water isn’t replaced, we soon dehydrate. You might be able to survive for quite a long time without food, but you wouldn’t last long without water – around three or four days at the most.
Aside from the fact that a lack of water will kill us, here are seven reasons why water is good for us.

Dehydrated skin is dry and wrinkled. Drinking eight litres of water won’t miraculously knock ten years off your face but drinking plenty of water each day will definitely boost your complexion. Water helps to hydrate the skin and keeps your skin looking youthful and plump. The older you are, the more you need to drink water.

You probably understand the link between a healthy diet and weight loss, but did you that drinking water for weight loss is just as important? For one thing, water is the ultimate zero-calorie beverage. For another, it acts as a handy appetite suppressant. Often, we misinterpret thirst for hunger, so drink a glass of water when you feel hungry. Chances are your hunger pangs will soon disappear. Water also raises the metabolism, which again promotes weight loss.
Dehydration leads to muscle fatigue. If you don’t drink enough water at the gym, your performance will suffer, especially if you are working out when it’s hot. However, be careful not to drink too much water, as this can affect the electrolyte balance in your cells.
